Are Name Cards Still Useful As A Networking Tool?

May 31st, 2010

Every business person has a name card. You most likely have a name card and you hand it out to potential clients, friends, people you meet, etc. However, have you ever stopped to think whether those name cards are boosting your business? With the power and ubiquity of search engines like Google.com, is the business card still a useful networking tool?

The answer is… YES!

However, you can make sure your calling card is more effective to get you business.

1) Make your name card design bold. Don’t be scared to use bold colors, bold pictures. Anything to make your card more memorable.

2) Make it FUN! Who says business cards must be rectangle shaped. One of my most successful calling card was in the shape of a monkey’s face. I attended an internet marketing event and handed out 4-5 cards to people I talked to. Lo and behold, people started coming up to me DEMANDING for a card. “Hey, can I have one of your cool monkey cards, please?”. When was the last time someone said that to you? ;-)

If you have a store selling double umbrella stroller, consider making your namecard a little baby stroller. Or if you’re selling computers, what about having your card in the shape of a mouse (a computer mouse, of course!). Things like that will get you noticed and remembered!
